What Is It?

Island Movie is a digital storytelling contest open to all Hawai`i public school students to demonstrate their creative writing, collaborative teamwork, and digital movie-making skills. Based on curriculum standards and benchmarks, the videos display what students know, care about, and are able to do.

Category

The contest contains three categories:

Teach Me Something
Make an instructional or how-to-movie.

Tell Me A Story
Tell a story about someone special, your school, or your community.

Environmental Concerns and Social Issues
Share local environmental concerns and social issues, which promote awareness and public action.

Division

Within each category, there are three divisions:

Elementary School Division
Grades 3-5

Middle School Division
Grades 6-8

High School Division
Grades 9-12
